Manufacturer warranties are tiered: a basic materials warranty, a longer coverage tier for a full system of matched components (starter strip, field shingle, ridge cap, and ventilation from the same manufacturer), and enhanced coverage tiers reserved for certified installers meeting a system requirement. Choosing a full manufacturer system rather than mixing components is what unlocks the stronger warranty tiers on both the GAF and Owens Corning product lines, and it is something we plan for at the estimate stage, not after the shingles are already on the roof.
